CORFU. From the Ionian Islands Regional Authority as part of the ΄Laertes΄ natural disaster response programme.

Corfu Port Authority is acquiring modern equipment through the ΄Laertes΄ natural disaster response programme. The equipment, procured by the Ionian Islands Regional Authority, was delivered today by the outgoing Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa.

For Corfu, there are one aerial and one underwater drone, as well as 15 tablets and a speedboat.

The handover took place in the presence of the Commander of the 3rd Regional Command of the Hellenic Coast Guard, Commodore Pavlos Tiftikidis, and Corfu Central Port Authority, Rear Admiral Anastasios Schinas.

The relevant Cooperation Protocol was signed last week between the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Christos Stylianidis, and the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands for the provision, without charge, of equipment for operational readiness for civil protection in the Hellenic Coast Guard.

Equipment for Ionian Islands

The Protocol specifically concerns the provision for use by the Ionian Islands Region to the 3rd Regional Command of the Hellenic Coast Guard (for the Regional Units of the Ionian Islands) without payment of the following equipment:

  1. Sixty pieces of electronic equipment (tablets), distributed as 15 tablets for each Regional Unit of the Ionian Islands Region.

  2. Four Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) – aerial, distributed as 1 drone for each Regional Unit of the Ionian Islands Region.

  3. Four Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) – underwater, distributed as 1 drone for each Regional Unit of the Ionian Islands Region.

According to the Cooperation Protocol, the 3rd Regional Command of the Hellenic Coast Guard is obliged to store and maintain the provided equipment regularly. The storage space for the granted equipment will be known to the Independent Directorate of Civil Protection of the Ionian Islands Region.

Every six months or at any mutually agreed-upon interval, the Independent Directorate of Civil Protection of the Ionian Islands Region will be able to inspect the storage and maintenance of the equipment and to propose methods of proper use and maintenance.

The signed protocol has a duration of 10 years and can be extended by a relevant decision of both contracting parties.
