CORFU. Pupils at Fotini Tzekou English Language Centre had a different kind of lesson yesterday.

Stami Tzora, from the Animal Welfare Organisation 'The Ark', gave a talk about Agapi (Love), the dog that was shot in its spine and whose hind legs could have remained paralysed.

The children listened eagerly, put up their hands and took part in the dicussion. Many of them had their own personal stories to tell about their dogs which had been poisoned, hit by a car or shot. While this was going on Agapi was looking at them from a photo on the wall.

The children learnt that there is a law against animal abuse and that "the police catch those who shoot or poison animals". They then watched a video showing Agapi, who was operated on and can now walk again and applauded loudly at the end!

At the end ths school handed over a sum of money for Agapi's medication.
