Dog dies following abuse

CORFU. There was another tragic incidence of animal abuse in Corfu on Saturday morning - with a sick dog being abused by its owner.
Readers told Enimerosi that they had seen the woman owner dragging the dog along the road by its lead even though it was obvious that it was too weak to walk. They said that she was pulling it so violently "as if she wanted to choke it".
Witnesses were shocked by the sight and reported it to the police, who came and took the woman - who claimed that the dog was just tired - to the police station. After being spoken to she was then allowed to leave.
The vet who examined and treated the animal said that it was suffering from hyperthermia and had a very high fever. After much effort the temperature dropped to the normal level but in the evening it rose again and the dog passed away.
