Case of sexual abuse: How a 65-year-old man persuaded a 17-year-old girl to leave Corfu

AGRINIO. "What could a 17-year-old girl want from that man? What did he have that she could want?" said the girl΄s mother.
A 65-year-old man was arrested in Aetolia-Acarnania on Monday evening by Thermo police. He was charged with the felony of kidnapping and sexual abuse of a minor.
According to what the mother told the police, the man alleged to have committed the crime persuaded her to take a bus to Athens, without telling her mother, and to get off in Antirrio, where he was waiting for her. They then went to his house, where he sexually assaulted the 17-year-old.
The mother managed to contact her daughter eventually but the girl refused to return to Corfu. The mother reported it and police in Thermos arrested the 65-year-old man at midnight on Monday. They confiscated his mobile phone and two tablets, which are being examined to see how he came into contact with the girl.
The prosecutor ordered a medical examination for the girl to see if, apart from the sexual acts, there was also rape - which will then be added to the charges against the 65-year-old.
The mother told Open TV that she had discovered what was happening from their conversations on Facebook.
"My child got involved with him on Facebook and he seduced her and managed to get her to join him. When I saw that it was late and my daughter hadn't come home I realised that she had gone to him," she said.
"We found out through Facebook. I saw that she was in communication with this unknown man and, as a mother, I wondered how she could be talking with a man of that age - what did she want?" she added. "What could a 17-year-old girl want from that man? What did he have that she could want?"
"If he had been a young man, I would have said OK, she's in love with him and wanted to be with him." She then said that "This afternoon I spoke with my daughter and she said 'I'm alright, mum. I know that that man isn't a good person'"
"On his profile he says that he is supposedly a musician and that's how he enticed my daughter."
