5 people arrested for theft in Corfu - another 2 accomplices still being sought

CORFU. They stole, amongst other things, telecommunications equipment worth 17,000 Euros, jewellery worth 2,000 Euros and 1,200 Euros cash.

Corfu Police solved three cases of theft - telecommunications equipment, jewellery and cash - and arrested 5 Greek men on Saturday evening. Two 20-year-olds and three others aged 19, 18 and 17.

Police arrested three of the men, aged 20, 19 and 18, in Corfu on Saturday evening and, with the assistance of Thesprotia Police, arrested the other two, aged 20 and 17, in Igoumenitsa.

Following their investigation into the breaking and entering into a telecommunications business in Corfu, police were able to confirm that four of the arrested men along with another 23-year-old, who is still being sought, stole property worth 17,000 Euros early on Friday (14/12) morning.

Following further investigation into other thefts, they were found to have been involved in two other cases:

- Breaking into a kiosk in Corfu Town in the early morning on Thursday 13/12 and stealing 500 Euros in cash and other items worth 230 Euros.

- Breaking into rented apartments in Yialiskari on 23/8 and stealing jewellery worth 2,000 Euros and 700 Euros in cash.

Charges were brought against the five men who were arrested as well as against another two, aged 23 and 36, for theft and acceptance and disposition of proceeds of crime.

The men were interrogated by Corfu police and other cases of theft are also being looked into. All five were taken to appear before the Corfu Prosecutor.
