CORFU. Due to the existence of doubt Corfu 3-Member Misdemeanours Court found the 62-year-old not guilty.

The man was arrested on Wednesday following reports that he had doused his dog in petroleum. He claimed that he had done it to get rid of parasites.

Despite the Prosecutor's request that he be found guilty, the court wasn't convinced that there had been wilful misconduct and so, due to this doubt, found him not guilty of the charges of animal abuse as defined in the law regarding pets and stray animals.

A fine of 30,000 Euros has already been imposed on the 62-year-old - which is independent of the court procedure. He has the right to appeal against this if he so wishes.

The 6-year-old dog, which was examined and treated by a vet, has now been adopted by a woman who offered to look after it.
