CORFU. Meeting with Corfu SYRIZA MP Alexandros Avlonitis.

Corfu SYRIZA MP Alekos Avlonitis had a discussion on Saturday with a delegation from the Association of Solari Residents, Professionals & Businesspeople.

The main topic of the meeting was the problems that the businesspeople and residents of Solari will face because of the upcoming implementation of traffic regulations in the area. As the MP said, “Solari is an extension of the urban part of the city and an important commercial centre.

"The planned imposition of traffic regulations, with the prohibition of stopping and parking in both directions, creates great fear and concern among businesspeople and residents of the area.

"It is the common view that, before the traffic regulations are implemented in the wider area, there should be a serious discussion between businesspeople and residents and the responsible authorities and local government bodies. Until then, the implementation of the traffic regulations should be suspended and all of us should focus on solving the traffic problem in the area by targeting the regulation of stopping and parking of vehicles, the creation of parking spaces and, more importantly, the uninterrupted and continuous operation of the businesses in the area for which the smooth and continuous access, stopping and parking of customers' vehicles is a key factor.

The combination of the regularisation of traffic and parking and stopping of vehicles is what is required.”

Support from Chamber of Commerce

The businesses also met with the President and members of the Chamber of Commerce Administrative Committee.

They expressed their concerns regarding the traffic regulations, which prohibit the stopping and parking of vehicles along the road thus preventing access to local businesses and which will result in their destruction and ultimately their permanent closure.

Corfu Chamber of Commerce supports the businesses and workers in the area and is asking for the authorities to provide a solution which will ensure the survival of the businesses.
