Indian delegation, invited by Greek Cricket Federation, meets with Municipality and Regional Administration

CORFU. A delegation of Indian businessmen involved in tourism, sports and education met with the Regional Governor, Theodoros Galiatsatos, and Deputy Mayor Giorgos Pantelios (standing in for the Mayor) yesterday. The delegation was led by the Indian Prime Minister΄s Secretary.

Also present were the President, Vice-President and other members of the Greek Cricket Federation.

The delegation of Indian sports businessmen, which is in Corfu for four days following the invitation of the Greek Cricket Federation, asked for the Regional Governor's support of the sport and for collaboration between the two parties.

Mr. Pantelios passed on greetings from the Mayor, who is not in Corfu at the moment, welcomed the Indian delegation and expressed the Municipality's full support of the Cricket Federation's efforts to develop the sport. The visit to Corfu from such an important country is in recognition of the long-term presence of cricket on the island and came about as the result of continuous efforts on the part of the Greek Cricket Federation.



Members of the delegation talked about the friendly relations between the two countries and how this could be developed through cricket in the fields of tourism, sport and education. They also invited a delegation from Corfu Municipality to visit India.

"The Greek Cricket Federation is continuously trying to devdelop the sport and we are fortunate that its headquarters is in Corfu. We are always looking for ways to support cricket," said the Ionian Islands Regional Governor, Theodoros Galiatsatos.

The meeting ended with an exchange of gifts between the Indian visitors and the Regional Governor, who presented them with sketches of the Ionian Islands in 1821 by Joseph Cartwright.
