Construction stages for sports centre in Almiros, Acharavi

CORFU. The technical supervision and operational coordination of the project has been undertaken by the Deputy Mayor of Technical Works, Chariton Koutsouris.
(North Corfu Municipality) Following up on the recent announcement regarding the construction of the Thinalia Municipal Sports Centre in Almiros, Acharavi, we present the individual technical stages of the project, in order to provide a clear picture of the progress and scope of the project.
Under the guidance, coordination, supervision, and oversight of the Deputy Mayor of Technical Works of the Municipality of North Corfu, Chariton Koutsouris, the implementation of the Thinalia Sports Centre is progressing rapidly and is developing through five distinct construction contracts, which are either already underway or about to begin.
1st Contract – Shaping of Semi-Circular Stands
The first contract involves the formation of semi-circular stands, with technical work for slope stabilisation, stormwater drainage, and land levelling.
2nd Contract – Earthworks and Site Development
The second contract focuses on extensive earthmoving operations to shape the surrounding area of the Sports Centre.
3rd Contract – Installation of Synthetic Turf
The third contract is being implemented under a programmatic agreement between the Municipality of North Corfu and the Ionian Islands Regional Authority. It concerns the installation of a new, latest-generation synthetic turf. This material is highly durable and offers excellent shock absorption performance.
4th Contract – Installation of Rubber Surface (Tartan Track)
The fourth contract includes the installation of a rubber athletic surface (tartan track).
5th Contract – Construction of Parking Area, Auxiliary Field, Landscaping, and Lighting
The fifth and most complex contract includes:

Construction of an organised parking area with asphalt paving, lighting, and signage.

Construction of an auxiliary sports field.

Refurbishment and functional restoration of the old locker rooms, field, etc., to support the overall operation of the Sports Centre.
Coordination – Supervision:
The technical supervision and operational coordination of the project have been undertaken by the Deputy Mayor of Technical Works, Chariton Koutsouris, who is in continuous collaboration with the Municipality’s Technical Service, the technical team, and the Ionian Islands Regional Authority.
The completion of these contracts is a top priority for the Municipal Authority.
The Thinalia Sports Centre is not just a facility — it is an investment in people, in youth, in the culture of sports, and in the cohesion of the local community.
