Corfu Airport closing again 20-28 January 2027

Fraport has announced that the island’s airport will once again close from January 20 to 28, 2027, in order for reconstruction works to be carried out on the runway.

Works will also be carried out at Mytilene and Mykonos airports, although these airports will not be closed for a continuous period.

In its announcement, Fraport states:

As part of the project for the further comprehensive upgrade of the regional airports, Fraport Greece, the operator and manager of the 14 regional airports, will carry out specific works at certain airports within its network.

Specifically, the dates for the suspension of runway operations at each airport are presented in the table below:

Corfu Airport: Suspension of runway operations from January 20, 2027 to January 28, 2027

Mytilene: 24 hours every Tuesday, 00:01()–23:59().
(Period: November 17, 2026 – March 23, 2027)(**)

Mykonos: 24 hours every Thursday, 00:01()–23:59().
(Period: November 19, 2026 – March 18, 2027)(**)

(**) Excluding December 22, 24 and 31, 2026, and January 5 and 7, 2027.

It should be noted that during the above periods, any emergency flights (medical evacuations, search and rescue flights, firefighting, humanitarian, government and other flights of a national nature) may be operated by helicopters, while all airport services will continue to be provided as normal.

The above works are aimed at further strengthening the already high level of runway safety and include, among other things, extensive improvements to the lateral runway safety areas (Runway Strips) and the runway end safety areas (RESA).

These works form part of the Concession Agreement. They are being carried out in accordance with principles of sustainability and respect for each local community, as supporting sustainable development and social responsibility are key principles of Fraport Greece.

The suspension of runway operations is absolutely necessary due to the scale and complexity of the works. The scheduling of the works has been arranged so that the periods during which the runways are out of operation are kept as short as possible.

Regulatory compliance and safety at all levels are key priorities for the company. It is worth noting that these works form part of a broader plan to further enhance the already high standards of safety and operation at the regional airports managed by Fraport Greece.

In this context, the company calls on passengers to take the scheduled periods of runway closure into account when planning their upcoming trips.
