Goggakis clean-up continuing
CORFU. When is the waste collection expected to be completed? Concern among local residents who have been overwhelmed by the stench.
Within the next three to four days, according to sources from the Goggakis company, the transfer of waste from the company’s burned facilities is expected to be completed. The collection process is underway, despite objections that have been raised concerning the certification of the final recipient.

Meanwhile, increasingly frequent—and more intense—posts are appearing on social media, on Corfiot accounts, featuring comments and complaints from residents of both Alepou and neighbouring areas. The residents speak of a strong stench and express fears about the spread of decomposed animal remains by rodents and other animals.

Given the initial delay in decision-making regarding the clean-up — nine to ten days after the devastating fire — the removal of animal remains is now considered urgent. As well-informed sources point out, the verification of transport certifications and final recipients must be carried out without suspending the waste collection process.
Official announcements are expected that will allay residents’ concerns and clarify the situation regarding the waste removal operation.
