Emergency measures and movement restrictions in Corfu on August 10 due to high fire risk

Corfu placed on high alert due to wildfire risk on August 10

The Regional Unit of Corfu has been placed on heightened alert (Fire Risk Category 3 – High) for Monday, August 10, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection.

Key points of the announcement:

Access and movement ban: By decision of the Deputy Regional Governor of the Regional Unit of Corfu, access, presence and the movement of people and vehicles are prohibited in NATURA areas, forests, parks and wooded areas from 1:00 p.m. until 11:59 p.m.

Areas covered by the ban:

South Corfu: Issos Cedar Forest (Korission Dunes), Agios Matthaios Forest, Arkoudilas, and the Theofylaktos area (Pavliana).

Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands: Lazaretto Island, Kompitsi, Agioi Deka, Stavros, and Agios Panteleimonas (Kato Garouna).

Paxos: Erimitis, and the islands of Panagia and Agios Nikolaos.

Fines and exemptions: Violators will be subject to an administrative fine of €300. Those who live or work in the affected areas, for travel to and from their home or workplace are exempt. Travel along the main road network is also exempt from the restriction.

The Civil Protection Service strongly urges the public to avoid any activities that could cause a fire, including burning vegetation, hot works or activities producing sparks, outdoor barbecues, discarding cigarette butts, and beekeeping activities.
