Temploni fire: Operation underway in area with difficult access

CORFU. Fire alert near Chondrogiannis Recycling Facility – large ground and aerial forces at the scene.
A wildfire broke out at 15:18 in a forested and particularly difficult-to-access area near the “Chondrogiannis” recycling facilities in Temploni. Due to the terrain, firefighters are experiencing significant difficulty reaching the site.
Shortly after 15:30, the 112 emergency alert system was activated, sending a warning message to residents in the surrounding area, urging them to remain on alert and follow the authorities’ instructions.
The following forces are currently operating to extinguish the fire:
Fire Service: 7 water tenders with 14 firefighters.
Special Forces: 6 members of the 15th EMODE (Special Forestry Operations Unit), with 2 flexible pickup-type vehicles.
Water tenders: Two from the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, and one from the Ionian Islands Regional Authority.
Aerial support: 2 PZL aircraft carrying out continuous water drops from the air.
Civil protection forces are battling to contain the fire front before it spreads further into the forested area.
