CORFU. Reinforcements of five vehicles and 12 firefighters are expected to set off for Corfu at 16:30.

The wildfire in Agios Stefanos, Avliotes is currently ongoing. The firefighting forces and the North Corfu Civil Protection Service are battling to contain the fiery fronts, but the strong winds in the area are making their task difficult.

Talking to Enimerosi, North Corfu Mayor, Giorgos Mahimaris, described the situation as dramatic and continued to say that evacuations are proceeding smoothly without significant issues (towards Avliotes Square, Avliotes Beach and Magoulades). He added that, so far (15:10), there have been no incidents where either people or domestic animals are at risk. He praised the heroic efforts of the pilots and the people participating in the firefighting efforts.
