Police close to identifying man who died in Peroulades yesterday

The initial assessment from the medical examiner regarding the death of the man in Drasti, Peroulades yesterday is that death was caused by a fall from a height.

The initial examination by medical examiner Ioannis Aivatidis before going on to the main autopsy indicates that the man was 65-70 years of age.

The fact that the body and head had multiple injuries is a first indication that there was a fall on rocks. The medical examiner told Enimerosi that the fractures in the head were so serious that death was instant and it was also recent - in other words, yesterday.

The body, which was without clothing, was found by a passing tourist on Tuesday afternoon. According to what Ioannis Aivatidis told Enimerosi, it was initially thought that the dead man, who has blue eyes and a pale skin, was a tourist.

The police, however, then rejected this as there were reports of a missing Greek. The description of the missing man is similar to that of the dead person but his identity can only be confirmed by a family member identifying the body.

Ioannis Aivatidis said that the fact that the man had no clothing may indicate mental problems, so, although foul play has been ruled out, it is quite possible that it was suicide.

The autopsy, which will take place on Wednesday, along with the evidence gathered by police, are expected to shed light on the matter.
