MP candidate Spyros Krokidis: "Support for catering sector affected by health crisis"

CORFU. The MP candidate Spyros Krokidis from the Nea Dimokratia party met with the Corfu Catering Union Board.
The MP candidate from the Nea Dimokratia party met with the Corfu Catering Union Board and had the opportunity to discuss all the major and long-standing problems of the sector. Immediately after the meeting, the MP candidate made the following statement:
"I met today with the Corfu Catering Union Board, which is a sector that I could describe as the largest employer in the country with about 75,000 businesses and which was hit harder than any other sector during the period of the health crisis.
I must say that the ND Government, within the limits of the country's budget, has taken measures to support businesses in the catering sector, such as the 7-cycle repayable advance payment measure of over €1 billion, which was tax-free and unconfiscated. In addition to the support measures, it also made reductions in tax rates and advance taxes, and abolished the solidarity levy.
Nevertheless, the sector has many problems and after the 10-year crisis and the successive crises of the recent years, it is now necessary to further support the sector with measures so that businesses can get back on their feet and we do not face a huge number of closures, which will result in the loss of many jobs.
In this framework, I consider the demands of the sector to be fair, such as the reduction of VAT to 6% in the catering sector, the provision of compensatory measures for catering businesses and the immediate inclusion of catering and small and medium-sized businesses in the financial programmes of the Recovery and Resilience Fund.
There is a need to take measures to ensure the viability and resilience of businesses against all kinds of crises.
Here in Corfu, the local government, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and the Corfu Catering Union, must take measures to support businesses and at the same time take initiatives and measures to promote the rich and unique local gastronomy with influences from both the West and the East, in order for it to become the greatest advantage for our tourism and form a new and modern tourist product, which we can link with the primary sector.
