Primary Health Care General Secretary and 6th Health Region Director meet with Regional Governor

CORFU. Renovation of the three health centres, new medical centre in Ag. Mathaios and recruitment of personnel for Paxos Health Centre.

The Primary Health Care General Secretary, Marios Themistokleous, and the Director of the 6th Health Region, Yiannis Karvelis, had a work meeting with the Governor of the Ionian Islands, Rodi Kratsa this morning.

The two officials are on a full-day visit to Corfu, during which a programmatic agreement was signed with the Mayor of South Corfu for the concession of land with the aim of building a regional medical centre inAgios Mathaios.

Marios Themistokleous reiterated the announcement for a radical renovation of the Health Centres of Lefkimmi, Agios Athanasios and Agios Markos, with a budget of almost €2 million each from the Recovery Fund.

Paxos Health Centre

Yiannis Karvelis also said that the announcement of a permanent position for Paxos Health Centre has been made.

After the meeting with the Regional Governor, they visited Corfu Hospital and were updated by the new Director, Manto Englezopoulou.

"I think that the issues in the region have now reached a balance, and on our part, as the Health Region and the Ministry of Health, we are doing everything possible, including the announcement of new positions that are in progress for Corfu Hospital," said the 6th Health Region Director. "I believe that staffing issues, which primarily concern the local community, are being resolved."

Safe tourism

"We had a very substantive and productive discussion; the General Secretary was already updated on the health issues in the Region," stated Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa. "We discussed the upgrading of health services, our efforts to incorporate them into our tourist product, and the quality and adequacy of health services.

"For us, safe tourism includes not only addressing COVID, but also informing our visitors about the provision of health services on our island and in the other Ionian Islands.

"We also discussed with the General Secretary the possibilities, in cases where there is a shortage of personnel, to incorporate them into the overall framework of the Ministry of Health's policy and the distribution of existing available personnel," concluded the Governor.
