CORFU. 27 arrests for various offences.
Between 18:00 on 1 October and 02:00 on 2 October police in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada carried out checks for the following:
- Theft and burglary
- Dangerous driving
- Violations of regulations at catering establishments
- Drug dealing
- Illegal immigrants
394 vehicles and 527 individuals were checked, leading to 27 arrests - 7 in Corfu, 14 in Zakynthos, 1 in Lefkada and 5 in Cephalonia - for the following offences:
- 5 for drug offences
- 1 for attempted theft
- 8 for illegal residency
- 8 for driving without a licence
- 1 for noise pollution
- 1 for playing music outside legal time
- 1 for drunken driving- 1 for assault on an employee
- 1 for domestic violence
There were 207 driving offences, including the following:
- 4 driving under the influence
- 41 speeding
- 12 not wearing seat belts
- 18 not wearing crash helmet
- 2 running a red light
- 3 using mobile phone whilst driving
- 13 without driving licences
- 1 with uninsured car
- 4 without MOT
18 vehicles were immobilised for driving without a licence, driving under the influence, not wearing crash helmets and being without MOT.
There were also 8 offences of smoking in no smoking areas.
