CORFU. Three nurseries in Acharavi, Platonas and Avliotes are being prepared.

A working meeting was held on Thursday 23 June between the North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris and the Ionian Islands Regional Director of Education Petros Aggelopoulos. Also present at the meeting were the Municipal Council President and Municipal Education Committee President Panayiotis Papadatos, the Deputy Mayors Haritonas Koutsouris and Spyridoula Kokkali, as well as partners of the Municipality and the Agros School Parents and Guardians Association President and member of the Municipal Education Committee Aspasia Protopsalti.

The Mayor said that the North Corfu Municipal Authority has made education a priority and is doing its best to improve all school facilities. He stressed that the Municipality, due to the lack of sufficient funding from the Ministry, is covering the needs of schools from its own resources. He also said that the Municipality is contributing in cleaning the school facilities and reminded the long-standing request of the Municipality for the creation of a night school and a vocational high school in North Corfu.

He also informed those present at the meeting about the preparation of three nurseries in Acharavi, Platonas and Avliotes, while Mr. Papadatos informed Mr. Aggelopoulos about all the works that have been made and are planned to be done this summer.

Specifically for the North Corfu 2nd Special School in Velonades, the Mayor said that the building will soon be a jewel for the whole Corfu, as it is being constructed with its own resources. However, he expressed his concern that although it has been requested many times, no study has been submitted and no information has been provided on the progress of the project by the company carrying out the work.

The Deputy Mayor for Works Haritonas Koutsouris informed everyone about the work being carried out at the 2nd Special School and said that the repairs and the installation of a new roof are proceeding at a fast pace within the framework set by the legislation for special schools with the Municipality's resources and that the aim is for the project to be completed by September 2022.

The Ionian Islands Regional Director of Education Petros Aggelopoulos listened to all the reports and recorded the important work that has been done in the North Corfu Municipality when it comes to school infrastructure. He stated that he supports the effort of the Municipality regarding the 2nd Special School and will provide any help. Finally, he expressed the thought of creating a special nursery school in the premises of the 2nd special school in the future.
