CORFU. Within the week, Corfu Port Authority will receive its first water ambulance with special equipment to transport patients.

Enimerosi had previously published that the specially equipped patrol boat will arrive within a few days, while Coast Guard members have already been trained in its handling.

Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas confirmed today the good news for Corfu:

“Following concerted efforts and in full cooperation with the Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa and the Marine Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis, the Corfu water ambulance will start its journey to Corfu tomorrow (Tuesday 16 November).

It will be transported by road from Athens to Patras and, from there, by boat to Corfu and it is expected to arrive within the week!

Corfu's water ambulance is ultra-modern!

It has two 350hp diesel engines and each can reach a speed of 45 knots. It also has modern radars and radio navigation equipment.

Its medical equipment is also ultra-modern. It has a defibrillator - monitor, a special ventilator with an electronic oxygen system, two special stretchers (one has a ramp for going ashore), etc.

In addition to the patient and the doctor, it can carry two nurses and up to 4 other people (relatives, etc.).

It is the first time that water ambulances are being built in Greece, as part of the new strategy for a better service and communication with small islands – in this case the Diapontia Islands, Paxos and Antipaxos.”
