CORFU. Five French passengers on the cruise ship MSC Opera, which came to Corfu on 5 March, have been diagnosed with coronavirus.

The fact has been discovered from a letter which the cruise company sent to all the passengers on Tuesday 18 March. It was also confirmed when Corfu contacted the company's head office in Switzerland. MSC claims that none of the passengers who embarked at Genoa or the crew had been diagnosed with the virus so they could have been infected during the cruise or after it.

According to sitecrew-center.com, approximately 200 members of the cruise ship's crew are in quarantine on the ship at Genoa port in Italy.

According to the post on the site (21/3), the number of crew members who are positive for COVID-19 has increased from 7 to 13 in the last two days and so all 200 crew members remain inside the ship until they have been examined by the Italian authorities and get the OK to disembark if the tests are negative.

All the MSC vessels stopped sailing on 13 March, as did those from all other cruise companies.
