9 Blue Flag beaches in Corfu for 2019

CORFU. Two beaches lost their Blue Flags - Almiros and Dassia.
The Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF), which is the the national operator of the international Blue Flag Programme, has announced this year's Blue Flag awards in Greece for beaches, marinas and sustainable tourism boats.
With 515 Blue Flag beaches - 12% of the worldwide total - Greece occupies second place amongst the 47 participating countries and the top region in Greece this year is Halkidiki with 92 Blue Flags. The International Committee gave the award to 3,797 beaches, 695 marinas and 67 sustainable tourist boats.
The annual announcement of the Blue Flag Awards took place in Vouliagmeni yesterday in the presence of a large number of representatives from the state and tourism organisations.

4. Daphnila / Grecotel Daphnila Bay Dassia
5. Issos / Labranda Sandy Beach Resort
6. Kavos / Mayor Capo di Corfu
7. Kommeno / Corfu Imperial
8. Kontoyialos / Mayor Pelekas Monastery
9. Kontokali / Kontokali Bay Resort
Marina Gouvia also retained its Blue Flag.
The Blue Flag Programme
A world-renowned eco-label trusted by millions around the globe, the Blue Flag programme has been in operation since 1987 and In order to qualify for this prestigious award, a series of stringent criteria must be met and maintained. For a beach to be awarded a Blue Flag the bathing water must be 'Excellent'. No other degree of quality - not even 'Good' - is acceptable. The Award lasts for one year.
In addition to this all the remaining criteria out of a total of 33 must be met (38 for marinas and 51 for tourist boats). These criteria refer to cleanliness, organisation, information, bathers' and visitors' safety, protection of the natural resources of the beach and coastal area and environmental awareness.
The large international travel and tourism companies pay special attention to the Blue Flag Awards when they choose destinations to recommend to their customers and consider them to be guarantees of high quality in service and environmental protection. All those involved in beach management, municipalities, hotels and campsites who voluntarily participate in the Programme are well aware of this.
In 2017 the Award Programme for sustainable tourist boats was implemented for the first time in Greece. The Programme presents awards to tourist boat companies for the sustainable operation their vessels based on 51 criteria for general companies and extra criteria for specific categories such as diving vessels.
The Founder and International Coordinator of the Programme is the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), headquartered in Denmark, with 73 member countries around the world.
It is represented in Greece by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF). Founded in 1951, the Society is the oldest national environmental organisation in the country is active in 4 main areas: Environmental Intervention; Conservation and Nature Protection; Environmental Education; Sustainable Management and Public Awareness Raising.
