Three members of gang that committed thefts arrested

(Ionian Islands Regional Police Department) Corfu police has managed to break up another criminal group engaged in thefts in various areas of the island.

The gang consisted of three foreign nationals, against whom a felony case file was drawn up for aggravated cases of theft.

The ongoing police investigation has identified their involvement in seven cases of theft and five attempted cases.

During a police operation carried out on Saturday, August 9, with the assistance of the South Corfu Police Department, three individuals—members of the criminal gang—aged 40, 45, and 51, were arrested. A felony case file was drawn up against them for aggravated cases of theft.

According to the preliminary investigation, since the end of July of the current year, the defendants had formed a criminal gang with the purpose of committing thefts and thereby obtaining unlawful financial gain.

The specific gang, according to the methodology it followed, operated mainly in the early morning hours, either breaking into or entering through unsecured balcony doors or windows of shops and residences, primarily stealing cash.

From the ongoing police investigation, their activity has been linked to seven cases of theft—involving shops, a residence, and the theft of a car—as well as five attempted thefts, most of which occurred in areas of South Corfu. Their loot included cash exceeding €3,000 and other items.

In their possession, police found and seized a total of €3,570 in cash, numerous banknotes from other countries, stolen small items, clothing worn during the thefts, burglary tools, and gloves.

The arrested individuals were brought to appear before the Corfu Public Prosecutor, and after charges were filed against them, they were referred to the Investigating Magistrate.

Investigations are ongoing to determine whether they are connected to other similar offences.
