Government minister: Seaplane flights begin on June 16
CORFU. The first 3 seaplanes will operate on the routes: Corfu/Paxos, Diapontia Islands/Patras and Ioannina, Alimos–Tinos–Patmos, followed by Volos/Skopelos–Alonissos/Skyros.
"Seaplane flights are starting, connecting Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontia Islands with Ioannina," announced Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis in a post on social media. He stated the following:
"When I became Minister of Development and Investment again in 2019, I realised that practically nothing had been done in the meantime, and I began the effort to get seaplanes flying again in Greece. It was the only major unresolved issue I left behind when I left that Ministry in 2023.
"So, you can imagine my joy that, finally, from June 1 the booking system will open, and from June 16 the flights will begin. The first 3 seaplanes will operate on the routes: Corfu/Paxos, Diapontia Islands/Patras and Ioannina, Alimos–Tinos–Patmos, followed by Volos/Skopelos–Alonissos/Skyros."
The test flights of the seaplanes took place from September 24 to 26, 2024, in Ioannina.
