CORFU. In addition to the pedestrianisation with modern paving and infrastructure, the project also includes rock protection interventions, which will continue once suitable weather conditions arrive.

With particular satisfaction, the restoration project of the seafront pavement and retaining wall in Garitsa was delivered today, Tuesday 15th April, for use by the public and visitors to the island. A project of vital importance for the wider area, which had been 'sabotaged' twice in the past, is now becoming a reality, as the Ionian Islands Regional Authority had promised would happen before Easter.

The restoration of the seafront significantly upgrades the image of Garitsa, which for years had been blocked off with metal sheets, warning signs, and a construction-site appearance. This is a project with a budget of nearly one million euros, completed within a year and according to high-quality standards.

Credit is given to the entire team that worked diligently, even under adverse weather conditions, as noted by the Regional Governor. The project benefited from smooth funding, consistent oversight, and the continuous involvement of the Ministry of Culture—factors that played a crucial role in its successful completion.

In addition to pedestrianisation with modern paving and infrastructure, the project includes rock protection interventions, which will continue once suitable weather conditions allow. These interventions are considered necessary, as serious issues of erosion and rock detachment were identified in the coastal zone, threatening the stability and functionality of the pavement.

This project marks an important step in upgrading the coastal façade of Corfu, offering safety, aesthetics and functionality to both residents and visitors of the island.
