CORFU. Corfu remains in a state of emergency until February 27. It is expected that within the remaining time, work on the network will have begun to reduce leaks, which are estimated to reach 50%.

The request from DIADEYAK to be included under the provisions of the recent legislative regulation as a result of the merger of services and enterprises has been received by the Secretary General for Water Supply, Varelidis. According to his statements to Enimerosi, the request will be discussed with the Minister of Environment and Energy, Skylakakis, who returned on Thursday from an official visit to the capital of Saudi Arabia.

A response is expected very soon. The same response was also given to Mayor Himariotis, who visited him last week.

DIADEYAK, expecting to collect 70% of the outstanding debt, will experience financial relief, and its relations with energy providers are also expected to improve. According to initial estimates, the amount in question is significant, approximately €9 million.

This issue, along with other pending matters—such as the disbursement of €1.6 million for immediate interventions and the inspection/report by EYDAP experts—are the reasons behind the silent withdrawal of the resignation of the company’s president, Achilleas Mazis. The matter had been included in the agenda of the recent central municipal council meeting but was withdrawn. The EYDAP team is expected to arrive within the coming week.

Corfu remains in a state of emergency until February 27. It is anticipated that within the remaining period, work on the network will have begun to reduce leaks, which are estimated to account for 50% of the transported water. This priority is clearly favoured over alternative water supply solutions for the island.
