CORFU. "Having already encountered the unyielding stance of the Ministry of Digital Governance, the Regional Governor and the Mayors outline to the Prime Minister the reasons why granting an extension is an absolute necessity."

(Central Corfu Municipality) A final appeal to the Prime Minister for an extension of the strict deadline for land registry submissions, set for November 30, 2024, is being made through a joint letter from the Ionian Islands Regional Governor, Ioannis Trepeklis, the three Mayors of Corfu—Stefanos Poulimenos, Giorgos Mahimaris and Vassilis Himariotis—and the Mayor of Paxos, Spyros Vlachopoulos.

Having already encountered the unyielding position of the Ministry of Digital Governance, the Regional Governor and the Mayors outline to the Prime Minister the reasons why granting an extension is an absolute necessity.

They highlight the unique circumstances of the Ionian Islands Region, where the land registry process has been implemented in staggered phases. In Lefkada, the process began in December 2018; in Zakynthos and Cephalonia, it started in June 2019; while in Corfu, it only commenced in November 2023.

With the final deadline set for November 30, 2024, Corfu is in the most disadvantaged position, as the timeframe for submitting initial applications is limited to just one year, compared to a span of 4 to 6 years in other regions of Greece.

This request, moreover, reflects the collective demand of the region's political, professional and social stakeholders, who have repeatedly protested in every possible way against the unequal treatment and the objective difficulties they face in safeguarding their properties.
