CORFU. The grant, amounting to 350,000 euros, was provided through the project ΄Water Supply to Arid Islands and Water Infrastructure Improvement Works for the Islands.΄

The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Christos Stylianides, and the Deputy Minister, Stefanos Gikas, co-signed the grant to the Intermunicipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands and South Corfu for the amount of €350,000 for the lease of a Portable Desalination Unit with a capacity of 1,000 cubic metres per day and the provision of processed drinking water for a period of 12 months.

This expenditure will be covered by the funding of the project 'Water Supply to Arid Islands and Water Infrastructure Improvement Works for the Islands,' from the SANA233 account of the Sectoral Development Programme 2021-2025 of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy / General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy.

The disbursement of the above credit will be done gradually, following written notifications from the DIADEYADK to the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy, accompanied by the necessary documentation justifying the payment claim to the beneficiary. The implementing body of the project is the Intermunicipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands and South Corfu.

On the occasion of the allocation of the credit, the Deputy Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Stefanos Gikas, stated:

"Responding to the request of many friends and businesspeople in South Corfu who faced and continue to face acute problems due to water shortages, and after repeated meetings with the Municipal Authority and DIADEYADK, I am pleased to announce that the credit of €350,000 has been secured and released for the desalination unit in South Corfu, which, with a supply of 1,000 cubic metres per day, will significantly help in managing the problem.

The purpose of the funding is to cover the water supply needs of the Municipality of South Corfu for the next tourist season.

With this measure, we are addressing an issue that affects daily life, the economy, tourism and the quality of life of the residents.

Now, it is up to DIADEYADK to complete any bureaucratic procedures.

We are close to the problems and provide solutions!"
