Regional Governor: "In 2,5 to 3 years the waste treatment plant will be operational"
CORFU. Meanwhile, he said that the Ionian Islands Regional Authority will proceed with a tender in order to achieve a reduction in the cost of waste management until the factory is built.
On Wednesday 18/9, the President of the Ionian Islands Regional Authority Yiannis Trepeklis gave a press conference, to provide an update on progress in the waste management issue. He said that the process of appeals submitted by the companies for the waste management plant has been completed, while the Council of State has given permission for the start of its construction and operation. According to the Yiannis Trepeklis, the project will be completed in 2,5 to 3 years.
Meanwhile, he said that the Ionian Islands Regional Authority will proceed with a tender in order to achieve a reduction in the cost of waste management until the factory is built.
Furthermore, he asked the company not only to submit some additional data that is missing but also to comply with the directives of Council of State and the tender notice.
He made a reference to his commitment to finding a solution to the waste management issue, and the need to support the municipalities until the project is completed, and the actions that will be taken to reduce operating costs. He also added that the cost spent by the municipalities for waste management treatment is huge .
