Crowds in Corfu Town for Easter pot-throwing (botides)

CORFU. People gathered in Spianada, Liston, from early in the morning, umbrellas in hand, to witness the traditional throwing the 'Botides' (clay pots) despite the unfavourable weather conditions.

With the signalling of the First Resurrection, at 11:00, the residents of Corfu throw huge pots filled with water. The 'botides' are the clay pots with a narrow mouth and two handles on the side for carrying them. The balconies are decorated, and the residents tie red ribbons to the pots - the colour of Corfu.
