CORFU. Following a joint decision by the POESY, POSPERT, POEPTYM, and ETIPTA unions, a strike of all journalists has been declared, starting from 5 a.m. on April 16, until 5 a.m. on April 17, participating with all workers in the country in the GSEE 24-hour nationwide strike.

Following a joint decision by the POESY, POSPERT, POEPTYM, and ETIPTA unions, a strike of all journalists, technicians, and administrative staff in all media (print, radio-television, online) in the public and private sector, ERT, EBU, ANA-MPA, municipalities, Press Offices, and websites has been announced, starting from 5 a.m. on April 16, until 5 a.m. on April 17, participating with all workers in the country in the 24-hour nationwide strike declared by GSEE.

The Federations once again observe the refusal of employers to proceed with the drafting of Collective Labour Agreements in the private sector, which has led workers to be paid meagre wages, insufficient to cover their basic family and personal needs, amidst increasing cost of living, which erodes family incomes.

Moreover, not only the employees in the media, but the entire Greek society, are experiencing a series of successive explosive increases, creating a suffocating situation for families as their incomes and resources are effectively being depleted.

We express our protest against the continuing and constantly increasing pressure on journalism and journalists, and ultimately on reliable and free information, which is a cornerstone of democratic functioning.

Workers are demanding:

- Collective Labour Agreements in all media both in the public and private sector. Journalists and media employees must finally stop being hostages of anarchic working conditions and very low wages. In the recent EU directive on 'adequate minimum wages,' member states are called upon to strengthen Collective Labour Agreements so that they cover 80% of workers. Information is a good and democratic guarantee, and its providers demand their professional and working dignity.

- Measures to address the cost of living that erodes wages and leads workers to destitution.

- Essentially and effectively tackling unemployment.

- National and European measures to support the protection of incomes and jobs in the private sector.

- Reliable and pluralistic information.

- Safety in people's movements and workplaces.

- Defending labour rights and restoring collective labur law is defending the principles of Democracy, Equality, Justice, with the ultimate goal of Press Freedom, reliable and free Information, with rules of ethics, reliability, and pluralism.

The Federations call on their members to participate massively in the strike, whose demands concern all media workers in the private and public sectors.

The Administrative Boards of POESY, POSPERT, POEPTYM, ETIPTA.
