AHEPA: Reforestation in North Corfu

The Corfu branch of AHEPA, in an effort to restore Corfu's natural environment following the wildfires of last summer in the northern part of the island, will be undertaking extensive reforestation on Sunday, April 14th.

After continuous meetings with the responsible authorities of the Forestry Service, specifically Forester Zaira Ekaterini Kritikou and Forestry expert Maria Papaioannou, and in repeated communications with the North Corfu Mayor, Giorgos Mahimaris, all bureaucratic procedures for reforestation have been completed, defining the area of 15 stremma where it will take place. Initially, 1,000 trees will be planted in the area of "Anapaftiria" in Loutses, contributing directly to the prevention of natural disasters from heavy rainfalls, and in the next reforestation period, another equal number will be planted.

The AHEPA Corfu branch invites organisations, pupils, groups, and volunteers from both North Corfu and the entire island to meet at 10:00 on Sunday 14 April at the intersection of the Perithia and Kassiopi-Acharavi Roads (Spingos Ice Cream). From there, everyone will proceed to the area designated by the forestry department and reserved for this purpose.

Corfu AHEPA warmly thanks AHEPA Greece Governor Christos Karapiperis, along with Deputy Governor and member of the Corfu branch, Nikos Dimitropoulos, for actively supporting the efforts by donating most of the trees to be planted, as well as Konstantinos Mysialis, a member of the Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni branch.

Special thanks for their invaluable assistance to Efstathios Theodorakis, director of Costa Botanica hotel unit, and GRECOTEL Hotels & Resorts for their crucial contribution to our branch's activity.

We are also grateful to North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris, Deputy Mayor Theofanis Skempris, Forestry Service head Maria Papaioannou, and Civil Protection Supervisor Giorgios Mavropoulos for all their efforts in dealing with bureaucratic and technical issues.

We hope to see you all on Sunday, April 14th at 10:00 am for the reforestation of our island.
