CORFU. Nine paintings by the Corfiot artist Kostas Tombros now adorn the classroom walls.

Beautiful Corfu locations have found their place in the classrooms of Liapades unior High. The formerly colourless and empty walls have come to life thanks to the splendid creations of the Corfiot artist Kostas Tombros, significantly altering the appearance of the teaching spaces.

The Venetian Well, Panagia Vlacherna and Mouse Island, the bell tower of Saint Spyridon, Liston, the bronze statue of Adam in front of the magnificent Palace of Saints Michael and George, as well as neighbourhoods in the old town and other characteristic landmarks of Corfu, now adorn the school classrooms.

Life and colour infused into school

These creations are replicas of the artist's original works. They constitute a specific series of art pieces that were reproduced, for the needs of Liapades Junior High, on large canvases. The purpose of these creations is to infuse life and colour into the school environment. The nine paintings, depicting the beauties of the island in the unique style of the artist, were delivered to Liapades Junior High a few days ago, and pupils eagerly took drills, nails, and hammers to hang them in their classrooms. Everyone appreciated the result.

"Our pupils were thrilled because the walls had been empty for a while. The nine wonderful paintings brought life and colour to the classrooms. The artist engaged in a lengthy conversation with the children, and after they collectively chose three works for each class, with everyone's assistance, we hung them on the previously barren walls," Konstantinos Kostalis, the school principal told Enimerosi

Their Own Paintings

Another artistic initiative is currently underway for the pupils of the school, aiming to develop their painting skills within the framework of the art class. For this purpose, Mr. Tombros will contribute three canvases to the school, featuring only a black-and-white outline, with the intention that the rest of the artwork will be crafted by the colourful strokes of the children. This activity will take place every Friday as part of the art class.
