Corfu animal welfare organisations condemn abandonment of dogs
CORFU. "Actions of this kind endanger the lives and health of animals. This is not animal welfare; it is abandonment and neglect."
The three animal welfare organisations of Corfu have condemned the cruel incident of dog abandonment and stress that the individuals seen in the video have never been, nor are currently, members of their organisations. They issued the following joint statement:
"Following the appalling and brutal incident of dog abandonment at the shelter in South Corfu (where 21 dogs were thrown over a 3-metre-high gate over a period of a month), the three recognised animal welfare organisations of Corfu, the Corfu Society for the Protection of Animals (KEPZ), The Ark and Adopt - Animal Welfare Association of Corfu, declare that the individuals who carried out this act have NEVER been, and are NOT currently, associated with any of the aforementioned organisations, neither as members nor as volunteers.
We condemn such actions that endanger the lives and health of animals. This is not animal welfare - it is DISPOSAL and ABANDONMENT. Individuals of this kind have no place among us.
You do not provide meaningful assistance to an animal by picking it up from somewhere and throwing it somewhere at the expense of volunteers and other animals.
It's worth remembering that similar cases of abandonment by the same individuals occurred last year when, over a period of time, they left 10 dogs at the shelter in Agios Ioannis."
