CORFU. "Can a protected area, a public resource, like Erimitis, serve as a catalyst for society΄s transition to a sustainable future?"

Erimitis Plus is organising a discussion in collaboration with the Ionian Environmental Foundation, aiming to explore broader proposals for the transition to a more sustainable future for the region. The event is open to the public and will take place on Thursday, September 21st, at 19:00 in the outdoor space outside the church of Agios Stefanos in Sinies. The announcement from the association:

'"Erimitis afterwards, examining the idea of a Biopark"

Following last year's event 'Erimitis afterwards' (June 4, 2022) and as part of the broader search for proposals, we are taking another step forward with the aim of finding ideal solutions for the transition to a sustainable future.

· Can a protected area, a public resource, like Erimitis, serve as a catalyst for society's transition to a sustainable future?

· How could a region in Corfu develop its economy with a focus on nature conservation?

· Can the general philosophy of a Biopark be applied and adapted in the case of Erimitis?

These and other related questions will be addressed at the discussion organised by Erimitis Plus in collaboration with the Ionian Environmental Foundation, and we invite you to attend.

Main speakers

Dr. Mike Maunder, former Executive Director of the Cambridge Conservation Initiative at the University of Cambridge in the UK.

Mr. John Regan, the originator of the Biopark approach, a specialist advisor to academic institutions and organisations for places based on biodiversity.

The concept of the "biopark," combining diverse elements, represents a revolutionary approach to nature that can lead to society's reorientation towards its natural and cultural heritage, enabling the sustainable utilisation of natural wealth.

The event is open to all and will take place on Thursday, September 21st, at 7 p.m. in the outdoor space outside the church of Agios Stefanos in Sinies.
