North Corfu Mayor thanks all those involved in putting out Loutses fire

CORFU. "These are difficult months and we appeal to everyone to be cautious."

(North Corfu Mayor) A message of thanks from North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris to the firefighters for putting out the fire which broke out in Loutses and Perithia on Monday 17 July.

Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris, who immediately went to the location of the fire which broke out in Loutses and Perithia on Monday evening, July 17, near residential areas, along with Deputy Mayors Nikolaos Mouzakitis and Spyridoula Kokkali, made the following statement after the fire was extinguished:

"I would like to express my warm thanks to the Ionian Islands Fire Chief, Nikolaos Kolovos, Corfu Fire Chief, Nektarios Theodorakis, the Commander of Corfu 1st Fire Station, Deputy Fire Chief Nikolaos Avlonitis, the Commander of North Corfu Traffic Police, Athanasios Ilias, the head of the firefighting unit in Thinali, Sub-Lieutenant Gerasimos Avlonitis and North Corfu Civil Protection Service, led by Deputy Mayor Theofanis Skempris and Supervisor Georgios Mavropoulos, for their readiness and effectiveness in dealing with the fires that broke out on the evening of Monday, July 17, near residential areas of our Municipality. I also thank the Commander of the Corfu Division of the 359 Air Force Public Services Support Squadron (MAEDY), Wing Commander Vasilios Theodorakis, for the aerial resources - firefighting aircraft of the PZL type - that were deployed, as well as each individual firefighter and every employee of the Municipality's Civil Protection Service.

I would also like to thank the President of the Perithia Community, Polymeros Kassaris, and all the volunteers who were present at the scene of the fire from the very first moment. The assistance of everyone was instrumental. The coordination was flawless and exemplary for the immediate and effective firefighting intervention, which brought the fire under control, preventing its spread.

These are difficult months and we need to be vigilant.On behalf of the Municipal Authority, we appeal to everyone to be cautious."
