A record number of runners from 24 countries took part in the 11th Corfu Mountain Trail over the weekend of 6 and 7 May. The 100km, 44km and 24km races took place on Saturday and the 12km race on Sunday.
Corfu Mountain Trail organiser Vassilis Alamanos said that this year the races finished in the historic centre and the route passed by several of the island's iconic landmarks such as the Achillion Palace, Mouse Island and Mon Repos.
Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Mayor Meropi Ydraiou said: "The event is taking place for the 11th year running under the auspices of the Municipality in collaboration with Corfu Mountain Trail and we thank them for this. It has been a successful collaboration and we have achieved our goals.
"We thank you, the sports clubs, volunteers, local councils, and all the organisations that participate and contribute to the success of each event. Through this competition, we promote sports, the athletic ideal, and also showcase the beautiful natural environment of Corfu.
"It is a celebration of sports, nature, and culture. This year, we have 600 participants from 24 countries, and in addition to the adult race, we also have a children's race with participants not only from here but also from the rest of Greece and abroad. This year, we have the honour of welcoming the champion Franco Colé."
