CORFU. 71.5% of Corfu teachers took part. Primary and secondary school teachers gathered at the High Schools at 11:00 this morning for a protest march.
Corfu schools were closed today or operating only partially due to the 24-hour teachers strike in protest against the Education Minister's assessment programme.
The teachers gathered at the High Schools at 11:00 this morning before setting off on a protest march through the streets of Corfu Town.
A large number of Corfu teachers are taking part in the national strike called by the Greek Primary Teachers' Federation (DOE) and the Secondary Teachers' Federation (OLME).
According to Corfu Primary Education Department, 71.5% of primary school teachers are taking part in the strike. The President of Corfu Primary Teachers Union Antonis Koursaris puts the number participating at over 80%.
Corfu Secondary Teachers Union Achilleas Kapetanios says that the percentage of secondary school teachers taking part is around 30%.
