North Corfu Municipality provides Thinalia fire station with two defibrillators

CORFU. A network of locations with defibrillators is being set up - in the next few days equipment will be provided to sports facilities in North Corfu.

North Corfu Municipality has started to provide defibrillators in the area to cover any emergency needs that may arise due to heart attacks and to create a network of locations with defibrillators.

On Tuesday 15 November the local authority provided the Fire Service with two defibrillators - one for Thinalia fire station and one for the Fire Department headquarters - as well as four defibrillators to the 'Help at Home' service. The equipment was handed over at Acharavi Multipurpose Surgery and was accompanied by a training session by the head doctor Nikolaos Poulis.

The following were present at the handover of the equipment: representing North Corfu Municipality - Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris and Deputy Mayors Hariton Koutsouris, Spyridoula Kokkali, Theofanis Skembris and Nikolaos Mouzakitis; representing the Fire Department - Fire Chief Nikolaos Kolovos, Thinalia Fire Station Chief Efstathios Kardakaris and other personnel. Agios Panteleimonas community president Ioannis Koskinas was also present as well as the Municipal Civil Protection supervisor and 'Help at Home' personnel.

Dr. Nikolaos Poulis gave a practical training session in the use of the equipment and stressed the importance of being able to respond quickly to heart emergencies and the importance of the first few minutes for the operation of the brain. He said that defibrillators were extremely important in dealing with these situations and added that the equipment has audiovisual instructions in Greek taking the person using it step by step through the procedure.

North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris thanked Dr. Poulis for the training session as well as Fire Chief Nikolaos Kolovos, Thinalia Fire Station Chief Efstathios Kardakaris and the other personnel from the fire station and the 'Help at Home' personnel for their participation. He stressed the importance of this equipment for the community in the possible saving of lives.

Fire Chief Nikolaos Kolovos also thanked the Mayor and the North Corfu local authority for the provision of the two defibrillators and as well as all those who took part.
