CORFU. The new school building finally ready - the foundations were laid in 2017.
250 pupils at Corfu 4th High School were able to move into the new school building today. A happy day for one and all after all the years of waiting - the foundations were laid in 2017.
From 1994 until yesterday the school had been using rented property in Pagrateika which hadn't been designed as a school - so pupils and teachers were especially glad to be moving into the new building.
The construction work has only just been completed and the blessings ceremony at the beginning of the year on 12 September had to take place at the old building as equipment was still being moved into the new property. The only remaining problem is the road leading to the school, which is gravel, but the school expects this to be remedied soon.
The official opening will take place next Tuesday with the Education Minister Niki Kerameos, who will also open the new school centre in Vraganiotika.
It is hoped that the lovely new facilities will not be vandalised by those who make a habit of destroying public property!
