Achillion Museum to close on 30 September - Reactions from Labour Centre

CORFU. “Workers are not responsible for the delays in the progress of the restoration work”.
The Corfu Labour Centre Board met and, amongst other issues, discussed the imminent closure of the Achillion Museum, which belongs to the Hellenic Public Properties Company (ETAD), on 30 September, while it is unknown when it will reopen.
ETAD's announcement has provoked a reaction from the employees, who have not been informed that they will stop working.
Announcement from the Corfu Labour Centre:
Our primary concern, as well as that of the Achillion Museum business association, is to ensure that all employees will continue to work, as well as to guarantee both their labour and insurance rights.
- Given that there is no information from ETAD on the exact date that the Achillion Museum will reopen, after its closure on 30 September,
- that following the Labour Centre's written invitation to ETAD for a meeting and information in view of the closure of the Achillion Museum, the determination of a date for its reopening, as well as the continuation of the employment of all employees, the meeting did not take place due to ETAD.
- that the employees of the Achillion Museum are not responsible for the delays in the progress of the works, for the observance of the project deadlines nor do they supervise the maintenance and restoration works themselves, for which ETAD and the contractor of the project are the only responsible ονεσ, the following were decided:
1. To invite again a representative of ETAD to a meeting with the Corfu Labour Centre and the business association in order to inform the employees what will happen from 1 October, when the Achillion Museum will be closed for an unknown period of time.
2. To hold an event-discussion which will be co-organised by the Corfu Labour Centre and the business union of the Achilleion Museum, with an open invitation to all bodies of the local community, as well as those employed in the tourism sector that are directly or indirectly affected by the closure of the Achillion Museum.
The event-discussion will take place on Sunday 25 September at 10:00, outside the Achillion Museum, to discuss the problems of the employees, the operation of the Museum and the consequences it will have on labour rights and the tourist economy.
