Conference & festival on Ionian music in Corfu

CORFU. By the Corfu Choir and the Ionian Music Centre with the support of the Ionian Islands Region, the Central Corfu Municipality and Ionian Islands Regional Union and in collaboration with the Ionian University.
The Corfu Choir and the Ionian Music Centre announced the conference and festival on Ionian music. The events of the conference will take place from Saturday 8 to Saturday 15 October with the support of the Ionian Islands Region, the Central Corfu Municipality and Ionian Islands Regional Union and in collaboration with the Ionian University.
The Corfu Choir President Takis Metallinos said in a press conference that this conference-festival aims to highlight and promote Ionian Music and create a climate of continuation and renewal of our musical tradition.
The necessary effort will also be made to promote this conference and its conclusions outside the Ionian Islands, so that anyone interested in our country's music can participate in order to promote our tradition.
In the conference-festival, distinguished scientists from the Ionian Islands and many others have been invited as speakers, who have a lot to say about Ionian music during its historical journey, as well as about the challenges of the present and the future. That is why special emphasis will be given to research and proposals for the future.
It is an eight-day cultural event in Corfu, during which there will be performances not only by Corfu but also other islands, in order to give a festive and regional character.
The programme of events will be announced in the coming days.

The opening of the conference will take place at the Old Palace on Thursday 13 October at 19:00.
Sessions will be held at the Ionian Parliament on Friday 14 October in the morning and afternoon and on Saturday 15 October in the morning.
The Corfu Choir and the Ionian Music Centre invite all the musical bodies of Corfu and the Ionian Islands, as well as anyone who likes music, to attend this conference.
