CORFU. The Corfu Firefighters Union issued a statement on the occasion of the fire at Gouvia Marina.
Statement:
On the occasion of the fire at Gouvia Marina, it is absolutely necessary to create a Port Fire Station and install a fireboat in Corfu Port.
Our Union has highlighted the need for that for many years, based either on the incidents that have occurred or on the fact that Corfu has two ferry lines, a cruise ship base, increased marine tourism and marinas for boats and ships, both existing ones and new ones to be created.
The creation of a Port Fire Station and staffing it with permanent specialised firefighters and equipment, in addition to immediate intervention in incidents, it also enhances the safety on our island.
