CORFU. The project was put out to tender again but this time it did not include the temporary car park as originally planned.
After many months of waiting, the project in Pagrateika has been put out to tender again, but with one difference. When it had first been put out to tender last January, it included the creation of a temporary car park, which will improve everyday life in Corfu Town. But the tender announced a few days ago provides only for the creation of a green area and levelling work.
The approval for the tender of the project, which has a budget of €274,000, was given at the Central Corfu Finance Committee meeting on 30 August.
The tender for the selection of the project's contractor will be conducted with an open procedure. The project has to be completed in four months after the signing of the contract.
The previous actions
The Municipality put the project for the creation of a temporary car park in Pagrateika out to tender on 25 January 2022. Six days later, on 31 January 2022, the Finance Committee decided to put the project out to tender again but with some corrections, which concerned works for the creation of a green area, which were not included in the original study. Plantings are also planned to be made, as well as to place lights and benches.
Thus, the temporary car park is not included in the tender issued on 30 August 2022 and the project concerns the creation of a green area and works in a plot of land nearby.
It is worth noting that the land had been purchased through a European programme for cultural use and in particular for the construction of the Lyric Theatre. In order to proceed with the initial planning of the project, which was announced last January, a change of use of the plot would have to be made, which, although feasible, it required time-consuming procedures.
According to the invitation to tender, a green area is to be created on the plot with plantings, automatic watering, benches and paths made of concrete blocks in colours, dimensions and designs chosen by the Service.
According to the study, at this stage only the part of the road between the abovementioned blocks can be opened because the actions provided for in the implementation act have not yet been completed for the entire length of the road. The current study provides for surfacing works on the section of the abovementioned road section. The study also includes electromechanical work for the installation of networks and lights, as there is not enough lighting in the area.
Small interventions
Apart from Pagrateika, in other areas within the Corfu Region - and where it is necessary for safety reasons - small works will be carried out to level the plots. Wire fencing will also be placed where required.
"The works will be carried out in accordance with the invitation for tender. The plot of the Lyric Theatre will be cleaned, while there will also be adjustments in the height of the ground, fencing, flood protection works and a green area", the Deputy Mayor for Technical Work Nikos Kalogeros told Enimerosi.
It is worth noting that no works have been carried out in these areas to date, thus making them seem abandoned. There is already a school that is operating in the area, while the 4th High School will also start operating soon.
