CORFU. Strong winds of up to Force 9.
Corfu was hit on Monday night by strong northwesterly winds of up to Force 9.
The winds caused damage, mainly fallen trees, and up to 07:30 on Tuesday morning the Fire Department had received five calls to cut and remove trees in various parts of the island including Kokkini, Troumpeta, Skripero and Sotiriotissa. Firefighters were also called out to two fires in farmland and to remove fallen objects in Garitsa.
In some cases, fallen trees caused damage to power cables but, according to DEDDIE, the damage has been repaired and at the moment (08:30) there are no serious problems.
The Fire Department, Civil Protection Service and DEDDIE remain on standby.
