CORFU. Teachers and pupils marched today morning with banners and slogans, following the strike at the Corfu Town General High Schools.

According to them, 700-800 people participated in the protest, while the police estimated a crowd of 300 people.

According to the Primary and Secondary Education Directorates, the participation in today's strike reached 85% among primary school teachers and 65% among secondary school teachers.

Regarding their demands, the teachers said that “The aim of the so-called evaluation is the categorisation of schools, the degradation of the educational rights of children from working class families, the intensification of class barriers in education and the operation of schools with private economic criteria.

All teachers are fighting against all this.

We condemn the action of Nazi-fascist groups in Thessaloniki schools. We condemn the criminal activity of fascists against struggling pupils, students and workers. Fascists out of schools and neighbourhoods. The government is largely responsible for the unacceptable tolerance of the criminal fascist groups’ activity, for the unacceptable set-offs with the organised movement and for the use of the historically inaccurate “theory of the two extremes”.

The protest in Corfu took place at the same time as the teacher’s mass demonstration in Athens:
