Greek President lays wreath at Ionian Islands Unification Monument

CORFU. Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou laid a wreath at the Ionian Islands Unification Monument this afternoon.
The President is in Corfu to take part in the celebrations for the 157th anniversary of the Unification of the Ionian Islands with Greece. There was also a flyover by two Armed Forces fighter planes.
Following the ceremony at the monument Ms Sakellaropoulou will go to the Palace of St. Michael and St. George for an official ceremony making her an honorary citizen of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality.
The President will also visit the opening of the exhibition "Echoes of the Struggle" for the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution at the Municipal Art Gallery.
At the exhibition whe will have the opportunity to view the original handwritten music sheets for the 2nd musical version of the Greek National Anthem "Hymn to Freedom" written by the Corfu composer Nikolaos-Halikiopoulos Mantzaros.
