Archbishop Nektarios to appear in court again following Prosecutor΄s appeal

CORFU. According to what the Prosecutor told Enimerosi, the appeal is with regard to the case of violating restrictive measures on Palm Sunday.
On Thursday Corfu Prosecutor Lambridis lodged an appeal against the court's decision to find Archbishop Nektarios not guilty.
According to what the Prosecutor told Enimerosi, the appeal is with regard to the case of violating restrictive measures at St. Spyridon Church on Palm Sunday. The appeal was lodged due to reasons regarding the case itself and legal reasons but the Prosecutor didn't wish to go into details at this time.
With the alleged interest of top legal and judicial names the case has gone beyond a matter of local interest and taken on significance regarding how the state system works in general. Consequently, the new trial is expected to be of especial interest.
The Prosecutor's recommendation at the trial was that the Archbishop be found guilty but with some mitigating factors. The new trial will be held at the higher judicial level. Both the Metropolitan Church and the defence lawyer Mr. Kontos said they were unaware of the developments and didn't want to make any statements. A statement from the Church is expected - possibly on Friday.
