Young Corfu girl in Patras Hospital ICU with septic shock now out of danger

The 2-year-old girl who was taken from Corfu to Patras Hospital ICU on Tuesday (3/12) evening with serious septic shock is now out of danger. She had been admitted to Corfu Hospital early on Tuesday.

Doctors, who realised the seriousness of her condition, made superhuman efforts to stabilise her condition and a C-130 aircraft was requested to transfer her to Patras Hospital.

The aircraft arrived but landing at Corfu Airport proved impossible due to the low cloud in the early afternoon. Eventually the young girl was taken to Patras General University Hospital Intensive Care Unit by ambulance accompanied by a paediatrician and anaesthetist from Corfu General Hospital.

"We are optimistic - her condition is stable and is on support. She is at a very vulnerable age," the Head of the Children's ICU Andreas Iliadis told tempo24.news and added, "It is something common and is clearly a microbe which hasn't been identified. It's a septicaemia which isn't beyond our medical capabilities. Congratulations to the ambulancemen and flight crews who make such tremendous efforts to save children."

Corfu General Hospital paediatrician Chrysoula Marangou told APE-MPE, "The child is out of danger - the measures taken firstly by Corfu paediatricians and then by those at Patras Hospital ICU saved the 2-year-old girl and her organs were also saved without suffering any damage."

According to the doctors, the young girl suffered septic shock following an infection in the soft tissues of her limbs.
