CORFU. It shouldn΄t really be something that makes it into the news but in Corfu it was the ΄talk of the town΄.
There have been accidents and protests - even flowers were planted in the potholes to gain publicity for the dreadful state of the road surface in the heart of the town. Everything passes through San Rocco on a daily basis, especially heavy vehicles such as buses which take a heavy toll on the road.
It is difficult to recall the last time the road was resurfaced but this weekend what all Corfiots had been demanding finally happened. If it had happened earlier in the week, everyone would have thought it was an April Fool's joke!
Work began on Friday morning, with a certain amount of disruption in the area. However, by Sunday morning things had changed dramatically!
To give him his due, the work was carried out during Mr. Nikolouzos' mayorship - we may be in an election period but the bureaucratic procedures of the slow-moving Greek state demanded a long period of preparation.
